The Brazil Nut is the fruit of a tree that grows
mostly wild in rainforests. Brazil nuts are harvested at plantations and
in the wild. Plantations are being developed in various parts of Brazil
and Bolivia.
Brazil Nuts contain a substantial amount of selenium.
This is an important antioxidant, and has also shown to be effective
against cancer. Selenium is present in a variety of foods but only in
very small amounts.
Brazil nuts have a valuable oil content as well. The
oil is a clear yellowish in color which has a pleasant and sweet smell
and taste. Brazil nut oil contains mainly palmitic, oleic and linoleic
and alpha linolenic acids and small amounts of myristic and stearic
acids and phytosterols. |
