Argentina is a very important producer of sunflower and
is one of the principal exporters worldwide.
We grow
oilseeds, (linoleic and high oleic), and confectionary
sunflower kernels. The confectionary type is different
from the oil type used for oil extraction for being
lower in oil content, which makes its digestion easier,
and it also has bigger protein content.
Under a nutritional point of view sunflower seeds
contents more than double iron than peanuts and are
equal in its protein content, (about 24%). Regarding its
fatty content, it has no cholesterol, and the poli-unsaturated
fat that contains are essential fat that the body needs
to metabolism the cholesterol.
Sunflowers require a shorter growing
season and tolerate fall frosts better than soybeans or
grain sorghum.
Sunflower
seeds are harvested at the beginning of the Argentinean
fall, which is spring time in the north hemisphere.
